Gas Pipes Replacement Works enters next phase this weekend

Published: 01 May 2018

A huge milestone is reached this week with the completion of the gas pipes work on Castle Parade in time for the Bank Holiday Weekend. On 8th May, the closure in Castle Parade will be lifted.

The gas works - and with it, the next phase of the traffic management plan - will then progress to the area around the Bridge itself. New Market Street will be closed and the junctions over the bridge will be controlled by three-way traffic lights. Forest Traffic intend to manually control these signals during peak times to ease the flow of vehicles as best they can. This piece of work is scheduled to take two weeks. It will also mark the beginning of the pipe replacement between Usk and Little Mill on the A472, managed by rolling works and two-way signals.

The closure of Mill Street for the pipe replacement there will now be delayed until the reopening of New Market Street - and is scheduled to commence on 21st May, subject to MCC approval. The work on Priory Gardens has not gone as well as expected, due to unforeseen obstacles below ground, but the problems will be overcome and this section will also be completed soon.

We appreciate your continuing patience and considerate driving/parking as we reach the conclusion of this Project. Thank you.
