It has been confirmed that Twyn Square will be reopening on Wednesday 18th April as work on this section has progressed well. This will see the lifting of the traffic diversions around Priory Street, Church Street, Maryport Street, Mill Street, Old Market Street and New Market Street - to the relief of many, we're sure!
The section of Castle Parade east of Twyn Square will, however, remain closed for a while longer yet, with traffic continuing to be diverted along Chepstow Road and Four Ash Street via Twyn Square.
Once again, we understand that residents on this diversion are expressing concerns - just as those on the original diversion have been doing - of speeding, illegal parking and disregarding signs. We will continue to pass these concerns on to Gwent Police and to ask that others do the same. Our local CPSOs have assured W and W U that they will patrol regularly during the final few weeks of the works.
We ask you all to continue to take care, drive and park with consideration and be alert to cyclists, motorcyclists and cars wrongly travelling north at the top of Maryport Street into Bridge Street and using pedestrian routes to short circuit diversions.
Watch out for the 'Usk Shopping Spree' event commencing next week, too. Lots of local businesses have signed up, so shop where you see the sign and earn tickets for entry into a grand draw, to be made on May 11th. £600 of vouchers can be won to spend in participating shops, pubs, services etc., thanks to a donation from Wales and West Utilities, matched by Usk Town Council.
More news on this soon!
